Yuka is played on three single-headed drums cut from hollowed tree trunks, the large caja, the middle mula and the small cachimbo, with a hoe blade or piece of iron struck as a bell and rattles; its couple dance includes the pelvic gesture (vacunao) later taken into guaguancó. Makuta, danced in the Congo cabildos, uses its own drums. A generic membrane-drum card stands in for the drums, the agogo card for the struck hoe blade and a generic shaker card for the rattles.",
