Drumming is the hereditary craft of àyàn lineages, who trace their art to the drum ancestor-spirit Àyàngalú, performing at royal courts, festivals, and ceremonies since at least the era of the Oyo empire. Akin Euba's monograph Yoruba Drumming: The Dùndún Tradition (1990) is the canonical scholarly study, and the idiom feeds directly into the talking-drum roles of jùjú and fújì popular music.",
