Rooted in the medieval Islamic panegyric-storyteller and flourishing in Istanbul kahvehane through the nineteenth century, the art was recognised by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. The delivery is improvisatory spoken theatre, opening with formulaic patter and rich in mimicry and topical comic aside.",
