  "lineage": "The first enka were the speech-songs of young political activists (sōshi) of the Meiji-era Freedom and People's Rights movement, who sang topical verses in the streets and sold the song sheets. Professional street singers (enka-shi) such as Soeda Azembō, author of Rappa-bushi and Nonki-bushi, turned them into satirical songs of city life and from the late Meiji era accompanied themselves on violin, a style recorded on SP by Ishida Ichimatsu and revived in the folk era by Takada Wataru.",
