"lineage": "Cuban Yoruba-derived Afro-Cuban religious-ritual song-and-drumming tradition preserved since the 17th-century-onward enslaved-Yoruba (Nigerian and Beninese) population, organized around the worship of the orichas (Yoruba deities transposed into Catholic-saint syncretism). The canonical batá-drum ensemble: three two-headed hourglass-shaped sacred-drums (iyá largest, itótele middle, okónkolo smallest) interlock through complex polyrhythmic patterns (toques) specific to each oricha. Each oricha has dedicated rezos invocational-songs, suyeres invocational-melodic-fragments, and toques rhythmic-patterns identifying-and-summoning the deity. The Lucumí ritual-vocabulary preserves substantial pre-colonial Yoruba liturgical-text untranslated. The 1959-onward Cuban revolution suppressed-and-then-tolerated santería; the 1990s-onward post-Special-Period economic-opening reopened public ritual practice.",
