Built on accelerated-version-of-guaguancó conga-pattern with three-conga (tumbador, tres-dos, quinto) plus palitos stick-pattern, claves 3-2 wood-block, and one-or-two-male-vocalists. The dance features acrobatic-male-solo (often climbing-on-objects, knife-and-bottle-skill-play, machismo-display) rather than couple-pursuit; columbia originated in rural Matanzas dock-worker-and-railroad-worker communities (etymology from the Colón rail-line) and remains the most rural and afro-derived of the rumba subforms. The vocal-style features Yoruba-Bantu invocations (Lucumí ritual fragments embedded in the lalaleo non-lexical opening) mixed with Spanish-language verse.",
