  "lineage": "The romancero of modern oral tradition is the body of narrative ballads in octosyllabic assonant verse, many descended from late-medieval romances, that survived in rural Spain, above all in Castile, León, Asturias, Galicia and the Canary Islands, sung chiefly by women at work and at home and in Asturias to carry the danza prima. Ramón Menéndez Pidal and María Goyri began collecting it at the start of the twentieth century, and their archive's field tapes, Alan Lomax's 1952 Spanish recordings and the Pan-Hispanic Ballad Project document thousands of versions of ballads such as Gerineldo and La Condesita.",
