  "lineage": "Slow unison congregational hymn singing of the Old Colony (Altkolonier) Mennonites, Russian-Mennonite settlers who took up the West Reserve of southern Manitoba in the 1870s and later carried the practice to Mexico and South America. Without instruments, part-singing or printed tunes, the congregation sings High German hymns from the Gesangbuch, each line started by Vorsaenger (song leaders), and stretches every syllable over long melodic formulas that have drifted far from the original chorale melodies through oral transmission. Wesley Berg's From Russia with Music (1985) set it beside the separate, notated strand of four-part Ziffern (numeral-notation) choirs in other Russian-Mennonite churches.",
