Its cantillation and prayer melodies are passed on orally by cantors and congregations and differ from city to city; the ethnomusicologist Leo Levi recorded them across Italian communities between 1954 and 1961, in a collection held by the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and the Hebrew University's sound archive.",
