  "lineage": "Ensemble music for the marimbas developed at the Kwanongoma College of African Music in Bulawayo from the early 1960s, built in soprano, tenor, baritone and bass sizes and played in interlocking parts with hosho rattles, often arranging mbira and other Zimbabwean songs. Dumisani Maraire, who studied at Kwanongoma, took the style to the University of Washington in Seattle in the late 1960s, seeding many North American Zimbabwean-style marimba bands. The orchestral marimba card, with padauk (Pterocarpus) bars, stands in for the Kwanongoma instruments, whose keys are cut from local mukwa (Pterocarpus) hardwood.",
