At wakes, memorials and thanksgivings a Kumina queen or captain leads songs in a Kikongo-derived 'country' language and in Jamaican creole ('bailo'), answered by the gathering, over two drums, the deep kbandu and the lead playing cyas, whose seated player varies its pitch with a heel on the head, while catta sticks are beaten on a drum's body and shakas are shaken.
