Its hadra drives adepts into trance with ghaita shawms and clay hand drums (gwal) and invokes the jinniya Aisha Qandisha; it was recorded by Paul Bowles in 1959 and studied by the anthropologist Vincent Crapanzano in his monograph The Hamadsha. The taarija card in its large size stands in for the gwal.",
