The form derives from Spanish-colonial seventeenth-eighteenth century romance song-tradition adapted with Tagalog-Visayan language and Philippine-tropical sensibility. Performance: small-group of male singers (often with the principal suitor) with acoustic-guitar accompaniment, performing standard repertoire of harana-classics or improvising. The form survived as a vestigial-cultural practice through the twentieth century and entered post-2000s urban-revival contexts through documentary projects and folk-music ensembles.",
