  "lineage": "Canadian old-time dance fiddling spread from the Maritimes by the New Brunswick-born fiddler Don Messer, whose band the Islanders broadcast from Charlottetown radio from 1939, recorded for the Apex label and reached a national audience on CBC radio and on the Halifax-produced CBC television show Don Messer's Jubilee until its cancellation in 1969. The style plays reels, jigs, hornpipes, breakdowns, waltzes and two-steps with a clean, lightly ornamented melody in strict dance tempo over a small band of piano, bass, guitar and drums, and it became a standard of Canadian old-time fiddling and its contests.",
