It was especially strong in the 1961-62 Albany Movement in Georgia, out of which Cordell Reagon, Bernice Johnson (Reagon), Rutha Harris and Charles Neblett formed the SNCC Freedom Singers in 1962 to carry the songs on tour. A song leader raises or lines out a verse and the crowd answers in full-voiced unison and harmony, usually unaccompanied except for handclaps.",
