  "lineage": "Competitive dance associations that arose in the Swahili coastal towns of Kenya in the 1890s, led by rival societies in Mombasa, and spread through Tanganyika and much of eastern Africa in the early 20th century, adapting the uniforms, drill and military-band music of the colonial forces. Bands of bugles or brass with side and bass drums accompanied processions and marching dances, and Hugh Tracey recorded beni bands for the International Library of African Music in the early 1950s; the credited-horns card stands in for the bugles and brass, the snare-drum card for the side drums and the membrane-drum card for the bass drum.",
