  "lineage": "Polyphonic singing in Gascon Occitan from Béarn and Bigorre in the western French Pyrenees, sung by groups of men, and today also by women and mixed groups, in cafés, at village fêtes such as the mid-August feast of Notre-Dame at Laruns in the Ossau valley, at church services and at the song festivals of Siros in Béarn and Ibos in Bigorre. A melody is doubled by a second voice moving mostly in parallel thirds, with further voices added in larger groups; the repertoire mixes pastoral and love songs, including songs attributed to the eighteenth-century Béarnais poet Cyprien Despourrins, with sacred chants, and the ethnomusicologist Jean-Jacques Casteret has documented the practice.",
