  "lineage": "Bakalao, or the sonido de Valencia, grew from the clubs on the coast road south of Valencia, such as Barraca, Chocolate and Spook Factory, where through the 1980s resident DJs mixed new wave, synth-pop, EBM and Belgian new beat into marathon weekend sessions that the press called the Ruta del Bakalao. In the early 1990s local producers and labels turned the sound into hard, fast, riff-driven club records with sampled stabs and chanted hooks, a commercial wave that peaked and faded by the mid-1990s and fed into makina.
