Tosk iso is continuous and sung on the syllable \"e\" with staggered breathing; Lab iso is sometimes rhythmically articulated to text and supports a four-voice complement against the three-voice Tosk standard. The 1920s-1930s Neço Muko field recordings in Vlorë and Tirana established the four-voice canon. Heartland villages of Gjirokastër, Përmet, Tepelenë, Vlorë, and Korçë sustain transmission lineages. Distinguished from Sardinian cantu a tenore by absence of guttural-ventricular bass and continuous \"e\" syllable iso; distinguished from Corsican paghjella by iso-drone foundation; distinguished from Bulgarian diaphonic women's choir by male-voice configuration and southern-Albanian regional dialect-specific cadential conventions",
